3 Tips on How to Develop a Natural Hair

As you know, naturally textured hair needs a ton of extra care. And for those who are still in quarantine, that means you’ll need to create a routine that will help your hair flourish.

Miko Branch, CEO of Miss Jessie’s, offers three tips for those who are trying to prevent their tresses from turning into hot messes. Embracing our wavy, curly and kinky hair at home – and without our regular salon visits – is a lot easier than some might think.

TIP 1: Transition from Chemically Straightened to Naturally Textured

We know the struggle all too well when you’re growing out a relaxer. Yikes! Don’t pull out your hair and stress over it because you have options – so let’s strategize. We have a big-time love for the big chop, which is liberating and sheer #Freedom. Study video tutorials to learn how to braid your hair and hide the two textures while doing so. Also, join your stylish girlfriends during the next virtual happy hour wearing ultra-fabulous hair accessories like velvet headbands, rhinestone bobby pins and earth-toned silk scarves.

TIP 2: The Right Tools = A World of Difference

Remember the three R’s: renew, replenish, rejuvenate. Always use hair care products – aka tools – that were 100% made with you in mind, whether your textured hair is wavy, curly, or kinky. We see you, beauties! Wavy hair can be frizzy, lifeless and limp if you don’t use lightweight, non-crunchy products. Dryness and shrinkage are major issues for curly hair, so opt for moisturizing products with a certain degree of hold. Frizz, dryness, shrinkage and style preservation are common for those with kinky hair – and super-duper moisturizers are key. No matter your hair type – ensure the tools you use are specifically designed to love on your textured hair. Curl power!

TIP 3: Nourish Your Scalp.

Healthy hair starts at the roots, literally! Feed a dry, itchy and flaky scalp and promote hair growth while doing so. Balance your daily diet with essential proteins and while shampooing (with a moisturizing non-sulfate cleanser!), massage your scalp to increase the flow of blood, relieve stress, and stimulate hair follicles. It’s a win-win! Also, be kind to your scalp with nourishing hair products such as Miss Jessie’s Grow Strong Mafura Hair Oil that is infused with tons of healthy oils such as soybean, seed butter, avocado, castor, jojoba seed, argan, sweet almond, Abyssinian and coconut oil.
